unexpected percussion is an intermittent, sound-based project rooted in a studio recording approach that recontextualizes tools typically associated with fieldwork. central to the process is the use of hydrophones placed inside water-filled containers, where diverse materials—metal, plastic, organic matter, and found objects—interact to generate subtle, often unpredictable sonic textures. these controlled yet open environments lay the foundation for the tracks, which where later manipulated and rearranged. 

developed over two years, the initiative was born from a need to cultivate slower, more reflective creative endeavours through in-person, on-site collaboration, free from the pressure of immediacy and the constant back-and-forth of digital communication. it proposes a space where boundaries are not fixed but fluid, enabling a dynamic interplay between intention and chance, structure and spontaneity.

unexpected percussion ultimately values process over outcome: the relationships formed, the act of listening, and the shared exploration of uncertainty. rather than seeking definitive results, it embraces instability as fertile ground—where discovery emerges through attention and patience.
